Only July 24, 2024, in an important step for public health and environmental safety, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed designating vinyl chloride as a high-priority chemical under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), because it may present an unreasonable risk to people and the environment. Along with our allies at Earthjustice and Toxic-Free Future, Beyond Plastics immediately released a report detailing the chemical's harms and recommendations for the EPA to consider during its evaluation. UPDATE FROM NEW YORK STATE
The NYS Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act passed in the State Senate on June 7, 2024 (hurray!) However, the Assembly ran out of time to bring it to the floor before they adjourned. We will take a little time to recover from the end-of-session sprint and then turn our attention to building even more support for this critical bill in the Assembly. We’re deeply thankful for our allies, our legislative champions, Senator Harckham and Assemblymember Deborah Glick, and to all of the amazing grassroots activists and volunteers who’ve called, emailed, tweeted, written letters to the editor, rallied, joined us in the State Capitol, met with their legislators and more. What you’re doing is WORKING and we WILL PASS THIS BILL!

CHEMICAL RECYCLING: A DANGEROUS DECEPTION
Along with IPEN (International Pollutants Elimination Network) we’ve released an eye-opening new report that sheds light on the industry’s deceptive claims about chemical recycling, a polluting false solution to the plastic pollution crisis it created.
Learn how chemical recycling speeds climate change, creates toxic pollution, and threatens public health, pollutes our environment, and endangers environmental justice communities.
