On April 25, 2025 the Beyond Plastics Local Groups & Affiliates network gathered in NYC for our first regional conference.

The State of California banned polystyrene foam food service products starting on January 1, 2025 yet plastic foam products are still being sold and served up freely throughout the state. Beyond Plastics’ Susan Keefe is working to hold the state accountable.

Beyond Plastics Montgomery County MD has only been up and running for a year and they’ve already succeeded in achieving a major win - successful passage of a single-use plastic bag ban. Learn more.
🧋Rallying to Reduce Single-Use Packaging in NY!🗽
On January 28, 2025 roughly 200 diverse advocates met in Albany to encourage legislators to support packaging reduction in NY.

🔨Learning Bioconstruction with Habitat Recovery Project in LA🌳
Beyond Plastics Appalachia Director, Jess Conard joined Habitat Recovery Project’s inspiring Bioconstruction workshop in Louisiana to learn how to build sustainably, using natural, sustainable, non-toxic materials.

Since February 2022, we have held 11 virtual training sessions and graduated over ONE THOUSAND activists from all over the country as effective advocates for legislative change on plastics in their communities.

In early September 2024, Beyond Plastics' Appalachia Director, Jess Conard, and our Youngstown, OH affiliate, SOBE Concerned Citizens joined forces with Physicians for Social Responsibility - PA to install much-needed air monitors throughout the community.

The Plastic Bag Store exhibit at Mass MOCA is a PERFECT place for folks interested in reducing single-use plastics to gather.

🪚Preventing Microplastics Contamination From Construction Dust in NJ🛑
Monmouth Beach, NJ just passed an ordinance requiring contractors to contain and clean up daily all table sawing dust including toxic plastics from manufactured lumber such as TREX, PVC piping and vinyl siding.
🌱 Working To Stop Cornell University from Installing Artificial Turf in NY 🚫
Our affiliate, Zero Waste Ithaca is working hard to convince Cornell University to halt its plan to install new artificial turf fields that would create plastic pollution, spreads toxins, and increase the risk of injury.

Beyond Plastics Local Groups & Affiliates fully embraced the global theme of Earth Day 2024 - “Planet vs. Plastics”. See what groups got up to on April 22 to raise awareness and get more people involved in ending plastic pollution.

✌️Chasing Off a Polluting “Chemical Recycling” Plant in PA 🚫
Led by local group, Save Our Susquehanna, residents and allies in Port Township, PA recently succeeded in convincing Houston-based company Encina to drop its proposal to build a polluting and problematic “chemical recycling” facility.

Beyond Plastics volunteers are hosting more than 35 screenings of the award-winning documentary film, “Blue Vinyl” in 21 states this Earth Month! Find one near you or how to watch in your own home.

🛑Stopping Synturf in Maryland🌿
Grassroots advocates in Maryland succeeded in convincing Howard County to scrap plans to convert natural turn fields to synthetic turf! Learn more and get resources.

🚫Overturning Montana’s “Ban on Bans”⚖️
Working with the Cottonwood Environmental Law Center, Beyond Plastics volunteers successfully overturned the first portion of Montana’s statewide ban on single-use plastic bans.
