Christy Rupp
LOCATION: NEW YORK & THE HUDSON VALLEY
Christy Rupp is a conceptual artist and citizen scientist, who creates work informed by the study of animal behavior and habitat. Since the late 70's she has examined the relationship of waste and environment through the lens of Discard Studies, or the study of the waste stream. Growing up in the Great Lakes rustbelt of the 50's and 60's, she became aware at an early age how our perceptions are framed as much by images of waste as they are of wonder. Christy’s work and her presentations with Beyond Plastics explore how we learn about and perceive nature, using sculpture and imagery of species in the crosshairs of survival. She lives in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
