THOMAS COLE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE — Join Judith Enck for a discussion on environmentalism in the region today and her work as an EPA Regional Administrator and as founder of Beyond Plastics, an organization that pairs the wisdom and experience of environmental policy experts with the energy and creativity of college students. Thomas Cole is considered an early American environmentalist, working before the term was even coined. In his art and writing, Cole advocated strongly for the preservation of the American landscape. In response, the Thomas Cole National Historic Site launched its “Greening Initiative” in 2015, which Judith describes as “a model for other historic sites around the state.”
Appointed by President Obama, Ms. Enck served as the Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency overseeing environmental protection in NY, NJ, 8 Indian Nations, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is a Visiting Faculty member at Bennington College, where she teaches classes on plastic pollution and was a Visiting Scholar at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. Enck hosts a Roundtable Show every Friday morning on WAMC: Northeast Public Radio.
The Thomas Cole National Historic Site dedicates the 2021 Sunday Salons lecture series to the memory of David Grey. Support provided in part by a Humanities New York Action Grant with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, Empire State Development’s I LOVE NEW YORK program under the Market NY initiative, and the Kindred Spirits Society of the Thomas Cole National Historic Site.
