Help Your Local Meals On Wheels Program Ditch Disposables

Beyond Plastics is working to help Meals on Wheels programs across the country switch from damaging, single-use disposable plastic trays to durable, reusable meal delivery trays. Making the switch to reusables is a win-win, saving the programs money and reducing their negative impact on the environment.

For example, a single Meals on Wheels program that feeds 5 meals a week to 500 people could save 26,650 gallons of water, divert 292.5 cubic yards of waste from the landfill, and reduce its climate change emissions equivalent to taking 1.7 standard passenger vehicles off U.S. roads for a full year and also save $32,000 in material costs in just the first year of making the switch.

MANUAL

We’ve created a comprehensive manual to help your local Meals on Wheels or other feeding program make the switch. The manual covers all the important considerations and provides step-by-step guidance for how to go about implementing the change from single-use disposable plastic trays to reusable trays, including case studies, resources, sample communications, potential funding sources, and more.

View the manual and share it with your local program.
